A few weeks ago I got to do something very special. Newborn photography sessions are always special to me, as its such a fleeting and precious time when mum dad, and baby are all still getting to know one another, and nobody has really done this before! (especially baby)
But this was particularly special as this wee man belongs to some very good friends of ours! It was especially lovely to see Jake, and Kerry suddenly transform into the most wonderful, calm and relaxed parents seemingly overnight, and it was an absolute pleasure to be there to capture their precious wee man :) I say ‘suddenly’, and ‘overnight’ because wee Thomas Hanns arrival into the world was all a little unexpected, taking everyone by surprise at 5 weeks early! So at the time of his newborn session he technically still should have been -3ish weeks old. I think he preformed pretty well for a -3 week old don’t you!!?
Thomas wasn’t so sure about this being naked thing, we managed to get a few shots of him in all his squishy newborn glory, then we decided it was better to keep him snuggly (with the hat and booties made by his Grandmother of course!)
I absolutely love Mums hands! This is kind of a ‘safety shot’ I do with newborns when getting them settled into new poses, before I ask Mum or Dad to remove their hands, and SLOWLY BACK AWAY FROM THE BABY ;) But I also love the sense of scale this gives you with bubs of this age, and the security of mum’s hands :)
I got to try a new prop too: my new born ‘posing pod’ which I was in no way convinced could contain a baby of any size!! (its about the size of a slightly large hat) but Thomas ended up loving it! (by loving it I mean staying asleep the whole time which in new born language is kind of the same thing!) So it may just become my new favourite prop from now on!
I absolutely loved this session with wee Thomas, and cant wait to watch him grow and change :) Stay tuned for another session in the future hopefully with mum and dad too!
